M.A., Resident in Counseling, RYT-200

Angela Benitez (she/her) M.A., is a Resident in Counseling working toward becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT). She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200). She loves working with children and their families to support them through various life challenges. Angela believes that the client counselor relationship is of the utmost importance and aims to create a safe environment for both children and their families to heal.

Angela works from a trauma informed lens and utilizes play-based therapies such as child-centered play therapy to assist children in expressing themselves and reaching their full potential. She uses her expertise as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) to incorporate movement and mindfulness techniques into her clinical practice, upholding a holistic approach to therapy. In her work with preschool and elementary-aged children, Angela focuses on helping them find their voice, express their emotions, and develop the resilience needed to thrive. Her practice is rooted in a humanistic, child-centered approach that emphasizes connection, empathy, and trust as the foundation for healing and growth. Angela collaborates with families to ensure they are included through every step of the counseling process to best support the client. She believes parents are essential partners in the therapeutic process, and works alongside families to strengthen communication, nurture connection, and create lasting positive change.

Angela specifically works with complex trauma, anxiety, and adjustment concerns, using play therapy to provide children with a safe and supportive environment to explore their inner world and make sense of their experiences.  She also has experience working in community-based settings providing individual and group therapy, crisis interventions, and psychoeducation. Outside of work, you can usually find Angela reading a good book, spending time with family, and practicing yoga to help keep her grounded and present.

Angela earned her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at George Washington University and her Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University.
