March TOPIC: Game On! Managing Rules, Limits, and Emotions in Play Therapy Children love to play games—whether it’s a board game, an imaginative role-play they create, or a physical competition. Games often bring out strong emotions and relational patterns, making them a powerful therapeutic tool. This lunch-and-learn explores how to therapeutically manage games in play therapy sessions, including navigating challenges such as cheating, changing rules, winning and losing, frustration, and power struggles. Participants will discuss how to set developmentally appropriate limits, maintain the therapeutic relationship, and use game play to support emotional regulation, self-control, and relational growth while staying aligned with child-centered principles.
