Five, Fun things to do with Easter Eggs

Easter is a time of bringing  friend and family  together.  Since this is a time when we are socially distancing here are some ideas of things you can do with your children that are simple and don’t require a lot of supplies.

1. Painting with Easter Eggs- This is a great activity to do with the plastic Easter eggs you can buy at any store during this season.  This idea comes from  myboredtoddler.co

Take the plastic eggs apart  and have your child dip the edge of the egg into paint. You can set up different colors of paint. Your child can then create lots of different colored circles.  Afterwards ,you can have your child color in the circles or make them into animals  such as a bunny, dog or cat or whatever their imagination desires.  This promotes creativity, concentration,  fine motor skills and a sense of accomplishment.

2. Shaving cream Eggs- This is a fun idea from Crafty Morning site using shaving cream and food coloring to decorate Easter eggs. Here is a video on how to actually do it. It’s super easy.  https://www.pinterest.com/pin/7388786877661472/

After you decorate the eggs your children can then play with the shaving cream.  Using shaving cream can help work on small motor skills such as drawing letters or making shapes.  Plus, it’s just a lot of fun!

Another version is getting a  muffin pan and put the shaving cream in  muffin circle, put some food coloring drops on top of the shaving cream. You then sit the egg in the circle and swirl it around.  It’s not quite as messy as the first idea but it’s not as  much fun to play with either.

3. Easter Egg Hunt– Instead of putting Candy in your plastic eggs to hide you can put messages inside the egg. Here are some great ideas from Alice and Lois.com. They have messages such as do a cartwheel, hop like a bunny,  tell your favorite joke and give your mama a hug. https://www.aliceandlois.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/easter-egg-fun-pf

Or  you can mix it up and put  questions inside the Eggs or coupons for a movie night of their choice, a pass to get out of doing a chore or an extra treat one night.  Finding the eggs is not only fun but it  helps with building skills such as determination, self-control, creativity and working on reading skills.

4. Easter Scavenger Hunt-  This is a great activity for older kids.  .  You can create a scavenger hunt with clues on where to find  hidden eggs.  Here is free downloadable clue card from  Darling doodle Designs.

Or you can create a scavenger hunt card  stating what type of eggs your child/Children need to find . You can also take a Sharpie and put dots on an egg or stripes and include these types of eggs in the search.  Suggestions are Find: 1 yellow egg, 3 green eggs, a striped egg,  four purple eggs a polka dot egg.   IF you have more than one child you can make a different scavenger hunt for each child.  This makes the hunt a little more challenging which helps them work on counting skills, reading, self-control and focus and the thrill of searching for what they need to accomplish a goal.

5. Alternative Easter Egg Hunt- if your neighborhood typically does an Easter egg hunt this year an alternative Easter Egg hunt is to do a  virtual Easter egg hunt. Due to the need for social distancing  this is a great way to still interact with your neighbors from a safe distance. Have neighbors  cut out a big Easter Egg out of construction paper and decorate it.   Have them then tape the Easter egg to a window  on display for the neighborhood.  Parent and Children  can walk around  the neighborhood looking for an Easter Eggs posted on neighbor’s windows.  Here’s an idea of a Mosaic Easter Egg from  www.thepinterestedparent.com

We hope you enjoy these Easter based activities but they are ones you can do at any time to promote getting outside and having fun with your children.
