Courtney Barber M.Ed., is a Resident in Counseling. She enjoys and has a great deal of experience in working with children. She believes that everyone deserves a safe space to explore their feelings and life circumstances, and she strives to create this safe space for her clients. Courtney’s training in Child-Centered Play Therapy allows her to understand the true language of children – play.
With a non-directive approach, Courtney helps children process and cope with challenging emotions through their play. Courtney is person-centered and creates a sense of calm and genuine positive regard for her clients. She utilizes creative counseling methodologies to engage the whole child. She partners with families every step of the way to create a strong support network for each of her clients.
Courtney’s deep knowledge of the school system is very beneficial in her work with children and families. Courtney also works as a school counselor in Fairfax County and was an elementary school teacher for several years. She earned her M.A. in teaching from James Madison University and her M.Ed. in counseling and development from George Mason University. Courtney is working towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist.
